Alexander Wang Resort 2013
When i think of contemporary design, Alexander Wang is one person that instantly comes into my mind. Wang has a way with cut and silhouettes like no other. He has a very modern and boyish approach which all contributes to his androgynous view on design. This collection emphasised basics, with a the most simple of monochrome palettes being used finished off with a hint of nude. Compared to the restrictive, utilitarian atmosphere that was present at his Fall 2012 collection, Resort 2013 was a much more delicate affair, ( ‘Alexander Wang’ and ‘Delicate’ would never be expected to appear in the same sentence together) with diaphanous, sheer fabrics being used as well as ribbed knits and puffa style jackets. There recurring theme of masculinity which is always present in Wang’s collection was visible again, with no frills or sequins, but instead leather, contrasting fabrics and heavy, organic textures. I also felt as if there was a 90’s sportswear influence present, with cropped knitwear, harness style vests and elasticated waists. The collection presents a huge amount of versatility, not only for daywear/evening-wear, but also men and women, ( i feel that a male could wear certain elements of the collection such as the jackets). Beautiful collection with a great mix of fabrics and textures.
